Group therapy sessions will be commencing the week beginning April 12 in Ruxton Court (off Dominick St). The group will meet weekly and there will be a maximum of eight participants in each group. There will be a Coping with Depression group held Mondays at 11.00am or Tuesdays at 6.30pm Coping with Anxiety sessions will be on Mondays at 6.30pm. and Coping with Grief or Loss on Tuesdays at 11.00 a.m.

Children urged to harness hobbies and skills

Every child under the age of seven should be cajoled, persuaded, and encouraged to start developing a hobby or skill, which potentially will have a huge positive impact in their life, this is according to Seán Connaughton who was a guest speaker at the annual conference of the Turner Contact Group Ireland recently.

Mr Connaughton was speaking in his capacity of battling with shyness over many years which he explained was stifling, disheartening, and frustrating. Shyness is an undesirable experience which can be overcome with patience, understanding, and focus. It is estimated that just under five per cent of the population suffer from chronic shyness. He explained that most shyness cases stem from early life experience which can have a serious impact on your attitude, approach, and potential throughout your life. Developing a skill or hobby at an early age loosens the impact of shyness and actually helps to avoid it becoming a habit.

Supreme Court sets aside arbitrator’s award in favour of Kingston

The Supreme Court has set aside an arbitrator's award made in favour of a construction company in a dispute with Galway City Council over withdrawing funds relating to a €6.3 million contract for the redevelopment of Eyre Square.

Mr Justice Donal O'Donnell found arbitrator Geoffrey F. Hawker had "misconducted" the arbitration in the technical sense and this required ed the setting aside of his October 2007 award on the dispute between the Council and Samuel Kingston Construction Company (SKC) arising from a contract of April 5 2004 for the redevelopment of Eyre Square.

Delegates at the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors Annual Conference in Galway have passed a motion calling for the full time arming of Regional Support Units (RSUs).

The motion which was brought by the Galway Branch of the AGSI and backed by Cork City, Cork West, Westmeath, Meath, and Kildare branches, is in response to concerns over rising crime rates and the need for the RSU across the country to be able to respond more rapidly to incidents involving firearms.
