A local Galway teacher has become the first in Ireland to be awarded the prestigious Teacher of Primary Science Award 2010 for her dedication and passion for educating her students.There is a chant which regularly brings Jane McLoughlin's senior infants class at Scoil Chaitriona, in Renmore, to life.

Ballybrit Racecourse will play host to two days of National Hunt racing this Bank Holiday weekend as the October Galway Races get under way on Sunday. The Galway Advertiser will be giving away some pairs of tickets to the meeting in conjunction with the Galway Race Committee and Renvyle House Hotel who are sponsoring a race at Ballybrit on Sunday.

Maxwell’s Restaurant on the corner of Eglinton Street and Williamsgate Street is back in business. Having lain idle for close on three years Galway’s oldest restaurant reopened for business during the summer. Maxwell’s forms part of the old Colonial Buildings which were built by Austin Semple in 1866. In its early days it was a whiskey and wine Import business as well as a high class grocery run by an F McNamara and Co. In 1900 it was bought by an Austin Green who married a Miss Maxwell from Longford and Maxwell McNamara & Co came into being.
