More than 900 new speed zones have come into effect across the country in Ireland. There are now 1,322 safety camera zones countrywide. Some 575 zones were removed because they were no longer considered high-risk areas.
More than 1.5m speeding tickets were issued since introduction of safety cameras (An Garda Síochána and GoSafe). Since 2010, An Garda Síochána says it has contributed to making our roads safer through the use of safety cameras, using a service provider ‘GoSafe’ to operate them on its behalf. The primary purpose of safety cameras is to reduce speed related collisions, lessen injuries and save lives.

The 201 new vehicle registration figures for January are down, according to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI).
New cars registrations for January are down 3.5 per cent (31,251) compared to January 2019 (32,370). Light commercial vehicles (LCVs)/ vans are up 2.1 per cent (5,666) compared to January last year (5,548), and heavy commercial vehicles (HCVs) registrations are showing an increase of 8.8 per cent (385) in comparison to January 2019 (354). However used car imports saw a 26.4 per cent (6,623) decline in January compared with January 2019 (9,003).
