New emissions tests mandatory since September 1

As of last Friday (September 1), new car models will have to pass new and more reliable emissions tests.

In addition to real driving conditions (Real Driving Emissions – RDE), they will also have to pass an improved laboratory test (World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure – WLTP) before they can be driven on European roads. This follows last year’s revelations that the Volkswagen group used technical devices to cheat emissions tests.

Most annoying Irish motorway driving habits revealed

Research carried out by Easytrip, specialist electronic parking and tolling tag provider, has revealed that 62 per cent of Irish drivers get most annoyed when other motorists ‘don’t use their indicators’ on the motorway.

Respondents to the easytrip survey highlighted additional annoyances as: driving too slow in the fast lane (59 per cent ); tailgating (56 per cent); using mobile phone while driving (55 per cent); throwing rubbish out the window (43 per cent); changing lanes too frequently (42 per cent ); not merging correctly from the slip road onto the motorway (40 per cent); and not driving up to the toll plazas correctly (15 per cent).

They may earn an average salary of about Stg.£2.4m a year but the most popular car for a premiership footballer is the Range Rover Evoque, a compact SUV which costs from around £30,000 (or from around €42,000 here for the 5-door). Yet whatever the purchase, footballers are increasingly using finance to do it.

That’s according to a new list compiled by a premium vehicle finance provider JBR Capital, which can count a wide variety of high net worth individuals as its clients, including premiership players. It has put together a top 10 of the most popular cars purchased on finance by premiership players over the last two years.
