The What Car? Used Car of the Year Award winners have been announced. One can argue the Irish market is similar to the much bigger UK in the availability of models and cars motorists like. Equally, one can argue Irish motorists have a different order on their priorities when choosing a used car.

Whatever the opinion is, the WhatCar? Used Car Awards do get motorists thinking and maybe looking beyond existing boundaries about what they like or do not like. This year, the Seat Leon hatchback fended off stiff competition from 14 other winners to be named the best used car on UK forecourts today.

New car sales fall, while used car sales

New car sales in for the first nine months of 2017 declined by more than 10 per cent compared to last year, according to figures released by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

New car sales totalled 128,578, a decline of 10.2 per cent. However used imports remain a significant feature of the market so far in 2017, with imports 37.7 per cent (70,821) ahead of the first nine months of 2016.
