Native Irish fleet lowest since 2006 as imports soar

Vehicle history and data expert Cartell.ie has reported the size of the native Irish fleet is now at its lowest level since March 2006 (1.78 million) as imports soar (488k).

The size of the native fleet (vehicles first registered in Ireland) fell quite dramatically in the final quarter of 2017, from recording 1.85 million in September to 1.78 million by the end of December.

Motorists get tyre pressure penalty point warning

Irish motorists are being warned they would now be liable to incur points on their licence if their tyres are either under or overinflated.

Following an analysis of the penalty points issued to Irish drivers during 2017 carried out by Continental Tyres in Ireland, the research has shown that for the first time since penalty points were introduced in 2002, a driver was given two penalty points for having incorrect tyre pressure.

New car sales in January this year have decreased on last year by 4.82 per cent, according to official figures released today by the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

In January 2018, 37,125 new cars were registered compared to 39,003 units in January 2017. This represents a drop of 1,878 units on last year.
