One in four in Galway believe AI will impact or take their jobs

One in four people in Galway (23%) believe artificial intelligence (AI) will impact or replace their jobs in the future, according to a new survey conducted by FRS Recruitment, one of Ireland’s leading recruitment agencies. This is slightly below the national figure of 26% of people who hold the same view.

New Ballina Sports Hub for all the community

Following the success of its two community sports hubs in Ballyhaunis and Ballinrobe, Mayo Sports Partnership has successfully secured funding for a third Community Sports and Physical Activity Hub - in Ballina - that will seek to promote sports activities for all, outside of the traditional GAA football, hurling and rugby activities.

The new Ballina Sports Hub Co-ordinator, Pat O'Brien, told members of Ballina MD at their meeting on Wednesday: "This is a five-year plan for developing a community sports network. I will be organising four annual meetings of all clubs and sports to come together and see how we can progress. It is up to each club to say what they need; we don’t have huge capital funding but there is a lot available for training.

CTL Tástáil Teo launches new wind energy project

Composites Testing Laboratory (CTL) is an accredited testing laboratory for advanced composite materials, based in Inverin, in Connemara. In partnership with University of Galway, the SME has launched the new project HAWK: Hibernian Airborne Wind Energy Kites, funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and featuring contributions from project collaborators Zero Nexus, TU Delft and Airborne Wind Europe.

Airborne Wind Energy (AWE) uses kites or drones that are tethered to the ground to generate electricity. There is a diverse set of challenges facing the adoption of AWE technology, including product safety/regulation, technology feasibility, and developing effective supply chains.
