Despite fears to the contrary, the Christmas period turned out better than hoped for by restaurateurs around the country, according to a survey of Irish catering establishments.

A survey carried out by Hospitality Ireland magazine showed that almost half of restaurants around the country described their business over Christmas as “good”, and “better than expected”. Forty-eight per cent of restaurants said their Christmas period had been good, with 31 per cent saying it was average. Only 15 per cent reported that it had been poor and seven per cent terrible.

€4m scheme to assist redundant apprentices

The Government has established a €4 million scheme to assist apprentices who are out of work, according to Fianna Fáil TD Noel Treacy.

The employer based Redundant Apprentice Rotation Scheme will be operated by FÁS until the end of the year. The purpose of the scheme is to give redundant apprentices the opportunity to complete the on-the-job phase of their apprenticeship in order to gain the required experience to progress to the next off-the-job phase or to complete their apprenticeship.

JCI Galway reviews successful year

Junior Chamber International Galway hosted its annual ball and awards ceremony in the Glenlo Abbey Hotel recently where the voluntary activities and efforts of members were recognised through the awards ceremony.

This event marks the end of a successful year for branch president Evelyn Cormican who had a busy year with 12 Galway projects to co-ordinate and acting as representative of JCI Galway at local, national and international events. She even travelled to Finland where she undertook to give training to members from all over Europe.
