The Ag Tech seminar was the highlight of a two day visit to Galway by an economic delegation from St. Louis who also visited Galway Technology Center and NUIG. The seminar which was over-subscribed engaged both Ag-Tech academia and industry leaders in lively panel discussions. The visit was part of an initiative to further develop existing relationships globally and to create more business opportunities for west of Ireland companies in international markets. The commercial vacancy rate in Galway in Q2 2016 was 15.3%, above the national average of 13.1%. Commercial vacancy rates in Ireland have increased, from 12.6% in Q2 2015 to 13.1% in Q2 2016 according to new research published by GeoDirectory this week. 28,615 of the 219,176 commercial address points in Ireland were vacant.
The new research, from the Q2 2016 edition of GeoView, shows that the highest vacancy rate of any county in Ireland was recorded in Sligo at 16.8%, followed by Leitrim at 16.3%, and Galway and Limerick, both at 15.3%. Kerry, which has consistently had a low vacancy rate over the past number of years, again had the lowest commercial vacancy rate at 9.4%, the only county with a vacancy rate in single digits.

Over the last 12 months, rent in Monivea has skyrocketed by almost 60 per cent. In early 2015, average monthly rent in the area was €568, but the last year has seen a 57 per cent increase, with prices now peaking at more than €894 per month.
Over the course of a year, or 12 month lease, that represents an additional €3,912 that a tenant must pay to a landlord. This is not an isolated incident, however, as rent across the nation has been surging.
