Thoroughbred horses inspire exhibition for Cúirt

Horses, poems, and drawings at the Kenny Gallery

THE BYERLEY Turk, the Darley Arabian, and the Godolphin Barb, were three 18th century stallions that were the founders of the modern thoroughbred horse racing bloodstock. They have also inspired a new exhibition.

Blood Horses, featuring drawings by Paddy Lennon and a suite of poems by Moyra Donaldson, tells the stories of The Byerley Turk, Darley Arabian, and Godolphin Barb, through charcoal and the printed word, in The Kenny Gallery, Liosbán Retail Park, Tuam Road.

From County Down, Moyra Donaldson has published six collections of poetry and has won the Women’s National Poetry Competition, The Allingham Award, the Cúirt New Writing Award, the North West Words Poetry Award, and the Belfast Year of the Writer Award. A new collection, Hold To Air, is forthcoming from Doire Press.

Paddy Lennon's works are held in public, private, and corporate collections worldwide. Speaking about his work he said: “A strong and integral part of my art practice is my drawing and my understanding of the principles of good draughtsmanship, observation, structure and discipline. They form the unseen frame on which I support my painting."

The exhibition opens tomorrow at 6pm and is in association with Cúirt International Festival of Literature. It runs Mondays to Saturdays, 9am to 5pm, until May 17. Admission is free.
