Scythian return to Monroe’s Live

A Celtic hoe-down and knees up is on the cards

THE SCYTHIANS were a group of Iranian people and Eurasian nomads who inhabited the western and central Eurasian steppes from the ninth to the first centuries BC. Scythian is also the name of a US roots-rock band.

The Scythians - Alexander, Danylo, and Larissa Fedoryka, with Josef Crosby and Tim Hepburn - have been called a Celtic rock band but the Washington DC-based group also incorporates elements of Jewish klezmer and Gypsy folk, into their music. Above all, there is an emphasis on danceable rhythms. A headliner on the US Celtic Festival Circuit, The Washington Post said of them. “Scythian’s enthusiasm is contagious, and shows seem to end with everyone dancing, jumping around, or hoisting glasses.”

Scythian play Monroe’s Live on Wednesday April 18 at 8pm. Tickets are €8 from www.monroes.ie and www.ticketweb.ie
