Still time to transform your community for 2020

Do you have a great cultural idea that could transform your community? Take that idea to Galway 2020 and they just might help you make that idea a reality. The open call for Small Towns Big Ideas closes on March 20, so there’ is still time to apply.

As a part of Small Towns Big Ideas, Galway 2020 is inviting submissions from communities throughout the city and county, to share their ideas for a cultural project that has the potential to transform their community. It’s a great opportunity to be creative, to think big, and to think outside the box.

The response from communities so far to Small Towns Big Ideas has been ‘overwhelming’, according to the Small Towns Big Ideas team, with an abundance of creative and imaginative ideas coming from all parts of the city and county.

Small Towns Big Ideas is one of Galway 2020 Flagship programmes. It celebrates ‘Meitheal’, the ancient Irish tradition of coming together for a common purpose, working together to ensure that all succeed in achieving a goal.

The programme offers an exceptional opportunity for communities to do something that they normally wouldn’t be in a position to do – due to financial or other constraints. Galway 2020 will offer the financial support, advice, and the opportunity to work with artists to bring their ideas to life.

The open call is aimed at all types of communities, be that communities focused on age, health, education etc. “We want your ideas, no matter how big or small,” says Artistic Director Chris Baldwin.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to bring to life those daydreams, those ideas you’ve been toying with for years, but never had a chance to bring to fruition. This is your chance to transform your community, to leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.”
