Joshua Burnside - a world of (unconventional) music

Northern Irish musician plays Róisín Dubh this week

HIS MUSIC has been called "rumbling, brooding, powerful, magnetic" by The Irish Times, and "dynamic and wide ranging" by Chordblossom, while BBC Radio 1's Phil Taggart said "it makes you glad to have a pair of working ears".

He is County Down experimental folk/world music/electro songwriter and producer Joshua Burnside, winner of the 2017 Northern Ireland Music Prize 2017 for his debut album EPHRATA. Burnside is coming to Galway to play the Róisín Dubh on Friday February 23 at 8pm.

Burnside's music draws from the native musics of Colombia, Eastern Europe and North America to produce his own works which feature stumbling beats, found sounds, vocoders, Cumbian rhythms, electric guitar loops, shaking knives in a biscuit tin, stomping and shouting, pitch bending, coding, looping, plucking banjos, and squeezing accordions. It may sound strange. It is unconventional. Yet it has earned the Ulsterman more than two million plays on Spotify, 80,000 views on Youtube, and critical acclaim.

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
