Burglary in Woodquay
An apartment in St Brendan's Avenue was broken into in the early hours of Saturday last.
The apartment in Amhra House, St Brendan's Avenue, was burgled between 4.15am and 6am on Saturday February 3. The culprits gained entry through the front door of the property and stole a PlayStation and a 40-inch LG television.
Anyone who noticed any unusual activity in the area at the time, or who may have been offered this property for sale, is asked to contact Galway Garda Station on 091 538000.
Burglary in Oranmore
Gardai are appealing for information about a burglary which occurred at a petrol station at Derrydonnell, Oranmore, last weekend.
The premises was broken into between 1.20am and 7.15am on Friday February 2, and a large quantity of cigarettes was stolen.
Anyone who may have seen anything out of the ordinary around Derrydonnell is asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station on 091 388030.
Burglary in Caltra
A pub in Caltra was broken into overnight last Friday night or Saturday morning, and part of a cash register was removed. The property was also damaged during the incident.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Mountbellew Gardai at 09096 79292.
Vehicles damaged in Ballybane
A number of cars in Sruthan Mhurlinne, Ballybane, were damaged on Monday evening between 7.30pm and 8pm.
Celebrations as Portiuncula staff win Euromillions jackpot
There were celebrations in Ballinasloe last evening when a group of 18 staff members won a €500,000 jackpot on the Euromillions Plus draw.
The ticket was bought in the hospital’s Oasis shop on Tuesday and will net each of the winners a jackpot of about €30,000 each.
The staff are believed to work in the hospital’s Medical Records Office and are making plans to travel to Dublin to pick up their winnings.

Mountain Meitheal Ireland (MMI ) is a voluntary, non-profit organisation whose aim is to spread awareness of sustainable recreation through building and maintaining upland tracks and trails.

Public lecture on the history of child protection
The revelation that 796 children, mostly infants, had died in the former St Mary’s mother-and-baby home in Tuam, between 1925 and 1961, shocked many, and raised questions about the State’s treatment of vulnerable children.
Science historian Eugene Jordan, who is also the current president of the Galway Archaeological and Historical Society, will examine the history of child protection in a lecture entitled Angels and Angel Makers. The lecture will be given to the GAHS in The Harbour Hotel on Monday February 12 at 8pm.
The lecture will examine child protection from its beginnings in late antiquity to the present day. Despite the difficult nature of the subject, the lecture is aimed at a general audience. It is based on years of research, and will look at evidence from a science history perspective. There will be a special focus on the St Mary’s mother and baby home in Tuam.
All are welcome to attend and admission is free.
Green Party fundraising table quiz
A fundraising table quiz for the Green Party’s Galway West candidate Pauline O’Reilly takes place this evening.
The quiz takes place at 8pm in John Keogh’s bar, Upper Dominick Street.
Performer Hugo Seale will be MC.
There will also be prizes.

Robbery in Woodlawn
Gardai are investigating an armed robbery which occurred at the post office in Woodlawn last month.
A man armed with a handgun entered the post office on the morning of Thursday January 18 at around 8.45am. This man entered the premises through a rear door and threatened the post mistress, demanding money from the safe. He then fled on foot across Woodlawn rail crossing.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses to contact Loughrea Garda Station at 091 844122, or any Garda station.
