Entrepreneurs beat the recession with marketing master class

Some of the secrets of surviving the recession will be revealed at a forthcoming training seminar for fledgling businesses across the west.

With the downturn biting, indigenous and innovative companies offer the promise of sustainable jobs, and effective marketing is crucial if they are to adapt, survive and thrive.

Against this background, an intensive two-day seminar Marketing and Selling in Tough Times, will be offered in Galway later this month. Marc Thornton, MD of DTA Marketing, will show business owners and key personnel how to get their product or service noticed and build a recession-proof client base. On-line marketing, branding and developing an effective marketing plan will be among the topics covered.

In Mr Thornton’s experience of working with over 400 companies, a recession means that well-planned, innovative marketing strategies are more important than ever.

“By increasing your spend you will get more attention and better deals. Advertising and promoting your company in tough times can also be seen as a statement of confidence,” he says.

“Realistically, getting marketing money is a challenge these days and company owners are looking to their marketing staff and advisors for ways to be creative and be cost effective - yet increase sales at the same time. There are economic ways to market your company and it requires a readjustment of your marketing goals and objectives.”

The marketing seminar is part of a wide-ranging training programme for those heading up high potential enterprises in all walks of life, across the Border Midland and Western (BMW ) Region.

Mr Thornton, who has previously worked with organisations from Superquinn to AIB, is just one of a number of experts attracted by HPSU Skillnet – a training network for High Potential Start Ups in the region.

“HPSU Skillnet is actively looking for new members in western region, and the marketing seminar serves as an excellent introduction to the training, and networking opportunities available,” says Network Manager Gert O’Rourke.

Marketing and Selling in Tough Times, a two-day programme, will be held at the Innovation in Business Centre (IBiC ) at GMIT on the Dublin Road, Galway, on March 26 and April 16.

The course fee is €150 for member companies, and training is funded by member companies and the Training Networks Programme, an initiative of Skillnets Ltd., funded from the National Training Fund through the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

Bookings can be made by contacting Gert O’Rourke, Network Manager, HPSU Skillnet on 086 6380757 or by e-mailing [email protected].
