Galway through to FBD final

Holders Galway will face Roscommon in the FBD League final after a comfortable 3-6 to 0-8 win over Leitrim in Clonbur.

It will be the third year the two counties have met in the decider after Roscommon overcame Mayo 0-14 to 0-11 in their round three fixture.

Two first-half goals set Galway up for their win in difficult conditions. A goal from Dessie Conneely was followed by another from a Frankie Burke penalty before Leitrim hit a purple patch to put together a run of seven points. However when Conneely added his second goal, Galway led by 3-3 to 0-7 at half-time.

With conditions worsening, Galway tacked on another three points to secure the win.

Manager Kevin Walsh described the conditions as "absoluetely shocking" which contributed to a huge number of handling errors, but thankfully no injuries.

Double tie

Both Galway and Roscommon are due to meet on Sunday, and then again in the final scheduled for February 18. As a result there are calls for this weekend's round five fixture to also double up as the final - a decision to be made by the Connacht council.
