Funding announced for Galway community and voluntary groups

A total of €115,053 in funding ha been allocated to some 130 Galway community and voluntary groups under the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Facilities Scheme.

Under the scheme €64,500 has been allocated to community groups in the county on a municipal district basis, while in excess of €50,000 has been allocated to groups and organisations in the city.

The scheme has been welcomed by the Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development, and Fine Gael Galway West TD, Seán Kyne, who said the money would go towards residents’ associations, active retirement groups, arts groups, men’s sheds, educational groups, community centres, resource centres, Tidy Towns groups and Scout groups. The funds will enabled the groups to purchase IT equipment, sports equipment, musical instruments, kitchen equipment, power tools, playground equipment, and first aid equipment.

In the coming weeks, the Department will launch the scheme for 2018. Minister Kyne said he and the Minister for Rural and Community Development Michael Ring would work to ensure “as many community and voluntary organisations as possible are supported in carrying out their work”.
