Galway electro-pop singer Laoise gets ‘Rich’

SHE HAS been called "the new electropop star of your dreams" by Wonderland magazine; "a gleaming gem" by Clash; while Notion has declared she is "not Ireland’s answer to anyone, but a new phenomenon in her own right”.

She is LAOISE. She is from Galway, and she has just released a new single, 'Rich', which is also a taster for her forthcoming second EP, due for release in next spring. The song was inspired by a relationship which ended up bing been compromised by money. The accompanying video was directed by Christian Tierney.

“It was my second time working with Christian," said LAOISE of the video. "He really brought what I had in mind far beyond anything I could have envisaged. The song is about a love that’s been compromised for possessions, and how easy it was for money to gain control over their mind. You can see this in the video where certain materials and surroundings can quickly alter personality and behaviour, and with every new material someone owns, the more superior they feel.”

The Line Of Best Fit has described the Galwaywoman's music as "post-midnight, moonlight-lit pop with plenty of surprises lurking in the shadows”. Her sound features elements of synth, indie, and alternative, as well as pop and theatrical music. She cites Kate Bush and David Bowie as among her key influences. Check out her critically-acclaimed debut EP Halfway.
