New coaching teams for U17 and U20 footballers

Galway Football Board will be interviewing for new management teams for both U20 and U17 in the coming weeks.

Galway county secretary John Hynes, in his convention report, said with both U21 and minor grades having been discontinued, the football committee would be looking for new management teams for the new season.

Also, as reported in the media last weekend, senior football manager Kevin Walsh has added to his coaching team, with the addition of one of Mickey Harte's former assistants, Paddy Tally.

Tally will join the management team in the coming weeks, while also continuing to manage St Mary's College, Belfast, in the Sigerson Cup.

Tally is highly regarded and has a wealth of experience in training and coaching teams, having spent two years with Harte in 2003 when they won their first All-Ireland title, and in 2004 assisting former Down manager James McCartan in 2004.

The Galway footballers will open their league campaign with a home game against Tyrone on the last weekend in January. If without their Corofin contingent and injured players, such as Gary O'Donnell, Danny Cummins, Michael Daly and Fiontán Ó Curraoin, there will be plenty of opportunities for new players to put their names on starting jerseys.
