Maximum Media announces plans to expand to Galway

Digital media giant to create twenty new jobs in the city

Maximum Media, Ireland’s largest digital publisher and the company behind JOE, SportsJOE, Her, and HerFamily, has revealed plans to make a significant investment in Galway in early 2018.

The move, inspired by company founder Niall McGarry, who began his media career in Galway, will see the company invest in a Galway office, creating more than 20 new jobs across creative, copywriting, design, journalism, sales, and client services.

Maximum Media, recently named by the Financial Times as the fastest growing media company in Europe, has seen rapid expansion and growth in the past 12 months, and now employs in excess of 150 people across its titles.

This week's announcement is part of a wider business expansion for the Maximum Media network, which will also see its UK counterpart, JOE Media, expanding its operations in Manchester and London in response to its continuing success and growth across the UK.

“Living in Galway and travelling between our businesses in London, Manchester, and Dublin on a weekly basis, I’m in a unique position to see and meet with great talent from within the media industry," Maximum Media founder, Niall McGarry, said of the move.

Galway has a huge amount to offer, and although big media outlets need to be headquartered in capital cities, we want to give people further afield the same opportunities to work in large-scale national media, while living in the regions.

“Maximum Media turns eight years old in 2018 and I’m very proud of all we’ve achieved and in our expansion across four cities,” he added. “I couldn’t be more excited about our investment and expansion plans for the west of Ireland as we open up incredible career opportunities to untapped creative resource in a region that I am very proud to call home.”

John Burns, managing director at Maximum Media, commented: “As the fastest growing media company in Europe we are continually looking at ways to stay ahead of the competition by being more in touch with our audience and commercial partners. Having a physical presence in the west of Ireland is unique for a leading digital publisher. Galway is a bustling hub for arts and creativity as it is, and I have no doubt we will have a wealth of incredible applicants for the roles available.”

Tara Moran, agency sales director at Maximum Media, added: “As a proud Galway native, and an employee of Maximum Media for over three hugely exciting and eventful years, I am extremely excited about what this expansion will bring for both the business and my home town.”
