Galway Lions Club Christmas Auction hits the airwaves tomorrow

Christmas is coming and for most it is a time of good cheer, but there are many in Galway who need a helping hand. Galway Lions Club has been a helping hand for over 40 years, providing Christmas shopping vouchers for up to 600 families and individuals who need a little support.

The Club does this without any fuss and with great sensitivity to those it has the privilege to be able to assist. In order to fund this, it hosts major fundraisers before Christmas, notably supermarket collections and the radio auction which is being held tomorrow. The Annual Radio Auction will be held live on Galway Bay FM from tomorrow morning (Friday ) and generates a frenzy of excitement and bidding, all to assist others and to bag some of the best bargains for Christmas.

The star item of 2017 is a voucher valued at €15,000 towards a car from Tony Burke Motors Main Lexus and Toyota Dealers. In total the auction has over 200 items for sale, so there should be something to suit every pocket.

The items range from weekends in luxury hotels, electrical homeware, shopping vouchers, house and garden furniture, beautiful paintings, exquisite jewellery, the list goes on.

All items are donated by the business community of Galway. Items are being added daily to the auction website at www.galwaylionsclub.ie Bidding began on the website on Monday last December 4 and comes to a climax tomorrow on the radio show.

During the Friday show bidders from all over Galway and beyond can bid online, by phone on 091 780780 on or by going to the Galway Bay FM and joining in the craic.

The auction still has room for more items and the Lions are calling on businesses to please donate by contacting [email protected]

The radio auction is 28 years in existence during which time it has raised close to €0.8 million, thanks to the generous support of the business community in Galway and the people of Galway.

All proceeds go to charitable purposes as Galway Bay FM provides free airtime and all Lions Club members provide their time on a voluntary basis. Members of Galway Lions Club have been volunteering for almost 40 years to help those in need in the community. The generosity of the people of Galway never ceases to amaze and this is what makes it all such a success.
