First Galway Dimebag Darrell Anniversary Show

Sixth Extinction, Sectile, Black Shuck to play event for slain and much missed metal Icon

DIMEBAG DARRELL, co-founder of Panthera, the Texan band who kept the metal flag flying in the 1990s when others in the genre appeared to have lost their way - and one of metal's most admired guitarists, will be remembered in Galway next week.

Dimebag (aka Darrell Lance Abbott ) was murdered by former marine Nathan Gale, while playing a concert in Ohio, on December 8 2004. To mark his tragic passing, the first Galway Dimebag Darrell Anniversary Show will be held in The Cellar, Eglinton Street, on Saturday December 9 at 8.30pm.

The night will see performances by Sixth Extinction, Sectile, and Black Shuck, playing classic Pantera tracks alongside original material. Sixth Extinction, who are making their Galway debut, combine death and groove metal. They have played Bloodstock Metal To The Masses and the Siege of Limerick Festival. They released their eponymous EP last year, along with the singles 'Vivid Black’ and ‘Emerge And See’. A debut album is forthcoming. Sectile are from Dublin and play progressive metal while Galway's Black Shuck feature former members of Negativ Result. This will be their debut live performance.

The show is presented by Damage Inc Galway, in assocation with the Cranium Titanium Metal Show on FlirtFM 101.3, Burning Metal, and Metal Radio Ireland. Admission is €5.
