Alan McMonagle and Moya Roddy in conversation

Writers to ask 'What is imagination?' at Scruitable literary event in The Black Gate Cultural Centre

THE WRITERS Alan McMonagle and Moya Roddy will speak about their work and discuss 'What is imagination?', at Scrutable, a literary event taking place in The Black Gate Cultural Centre, St Francis Street.

Alan McMonagle has published two collections of short stories - Psychotic Episodes (Arlen House, 2013 ) and Liar Liar (Wordsonthestreet, 2008 ) - while his debut novel, Ithaca, published earlier this year, was nominated for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Irish Book Awards. Moya Roddy’s collection, Other People, was longlisted for the Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award. She has written for RTÉ, the British Film Institute, Channel 4, and Scottish Television.

The event will be chaired by Celeste Augé, co-founder of Scrutable. "Scrutable literary events are for anyone who has ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in an author’s writing world," she says. "How they think about their work, what informs their writing, the aspects of writing an audience doesn’t normally hear about."

Scruitable takes place on Tuesday December 5 at 8pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.
