Can't get enough of ConTempo?

Quartet to perform at next Music For Galway concert, as well as various events in Galway city and Kinvara

SLY STONE urged us to "dance to the music" and the ConTempo Quartet is about to take audiences through their dance-paces, bringing them on a sonic journey from the formality of the Austrian courts to the wildness of the Romanian steppes.

Music For Galway and the Galway Music Residency present Dance with ConTempo in St Joseph’s Church, Presentation Road, on Wednesday November 8 at 8pm. The programme features music that was danced to in its day or was inspired by various dance forms.

ConTempo will perform Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue; Beethoven’s String Quartet Op 18 No 3, apparently featuring a Mexican hat dance in one of the movements; Latin American music with Villa-Lobos' String Quartet No 1 and Piazzolla's Four for tango. There will also be a performance of Bartók’s Romanian Dances, and Sam Perkin’s Pause, a contemplative piece, influenced by Irish traditional music and commissioned by Cork County Council for the commemoration of the 1916 Rising. Tickets are €20/18/16/6 via www.musicforgalway.ie, 091 - 705962, or from O’Maille’s Original House of Style, Shop Street.
