Racially motivated assault in Westside

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to an instance of racial abuse and assault which occurred in Westside last week.

On Wednesday, October 18, at about 6pm a young man and his brother left the astroturf pitches in Westside and walked towards Coogan Park. They were set upon by a group of five or six boys on bicycles. The boys racially abused the young man and punched him in the face. Two passers-by came to the assistance of the victims and helped them home to Coogan Park in the Westside/Newcastle area.

Gardai are asking the people who helped the pair, or anyone else with information on this incident, to contact Galway Garda station at 091 538000.

Serious assault on the Headford Road

Gardai are appealing for information following a serious assault which occurred in the early hours of Friday October 13. It happened between 6am and 7.30am in the Headford Road area.

Gardai are anxious to speak to a number of people who can help with the investigation. These include two women who were walking on Forster Street, near Park House, at about 5am, early on Friday October 13. These women may have spoken to a couple who were walking on the opposite side of the street to them.

Gardai are also appealing to two young men who were outside the Gala shop on Prospect Hill between 5am and 5.30am that morning. They may have spoken with an Eastern European male outside the shop.

Gardai also want to talk to a man who was walking on the Headford Road, between Argos and the IMC cinema, early in the morning. This man may have witnessed part of a serious assault or something suspicious while walking outbound on the Headford Road between 6.30am and 7.30am.

Burglary in Oranmore

A shed was broken into in the Moneymore area of Oranmore last week. The burglary took place at some time between Tuesday October 17 and Saturday October 21. The shed was well secured, but the locks were forced and equestrian equipment was taken.

The interior bars of a Westwood double horsebox were stolen, in particular the chest rail and a vertical bar. A large van or trailer would have been needed to transport the stolen property. Anyone with information on these parts of a horse box, or on leather horse saddles which were also taken, is asked to contact Oranmore Garda Station at 091 388038.

Bicycle theft

A white hybrid bicycle was stolen from a bike rack in Eyre Square on Friday October 13 between 12.45pm and 1.30pm. The bicycle was stolen from the bicycle rack at the top of the Square, opposite Cafe Express. The bicycle was locked at the time and the lock was snapped and left behind. Assault in Oranmore

Gardaí are investigating an assault on two teenage boys which took place in Oranmore last Friday, October 20.

A youth disco took place in Oranmore on the night of the incident. At approximately 9pm that evening the two teens were assaulted in the Riverdale estate in Oranmore, which is located next to the AIB bank in the village.

The pair were set upon by a group of up to 10 other teens. Gardai are appealing to anyone with information on the assault to come forward; either those involved, or those who played no part in the assault, but who can assist gardai in their inquiries. Any young person or parent with information on what happened that evening is asked to contact the gardai in Oranmore at 091 388038.
