Mark Geary returns to Monroe’s Live

New album and single from 'quintessential singer-songwriter'

MARK GEARY has just released his new album The Fool and will play songs from it, and from across his 25 year career, at his show in Monroe's Live, part of his current Irish tour.

Often hailed as a "quintessential singer-songwriter", the Dubliner began his career in the early 1990s, eventually moving to New York in 1992, cutting his teeth in the East village and the legendary Sin-E Café, where he grew a steady following and featured on bills with Jeff Buckley, Joe Strummer, and Elvis Costello.

Since then he has released the albums 33 1/3 Grand Street (2003 ), Ghosts (2004 ), Opium (2008 ), and Songs About Love, Songs About Leaving (2011 ). His most recent single was 'Battle of Troy'. Geary said of it: "It bops along, drums, drum loops, four voices, harmonies, Spanish guitar, distorted and compressed, it's all there. A song of yearning and terrible regret."

Marc Geary plays Monroe's Live on Saturday November 4 at 8pm. Tickets are €10 via www.monroes.ie
