Eimear O’Tuathail, a 17-year-old from Galway, wowed US audiences this week with her performance on the hugely popular Ellen DeGeneres Show.
The Coláiste Iognáid student had written a song for DeGeneres asking if she could meet her. Eimear performed the song, titled ‘Hey Ellen’, live on the show.
Describing herself as Ellen’s “biggest fan”, Eimear told the chat show host and actress that she was looking forward to stocking up on her favourite lip balm, EOS, and trying a new Starbucks drink not available in Ireland. DeGeneres presented her with the drink, along with a hamper of EOS products and a cheque for $10,000 towards college.
Eimear, an accomplished singer and pianist, won the post primary category in last year’s Song for 16, an all-island schools song competition held as part of the National Concert Hall’s 1916 centenary programme, with her song ‘The Great Emerald Isle’.
The episode, which aired in the US this week, will be broadcast on ITV2 next week.
