Dungeons and Donuts will host its annual Game-A-Thon on Saturday October 28. The 24-hour gaming event, now in its third year, will see gamers playing for a full 24 hours to raise funds for Cancer Care West.
The event has raised more than €12,000 since it began in 2015. In store at Dungeons and Donuts in The Bridge Mills, a group of volunteer gamers will attempt to keep games running for 24 hours from 12 noon on October 28 to 12 noon on October 29.
“My wife was diagnosed with cancer over two years ago, so we wanted to raise monies for the charity that really helped us — Cancer Care West,” Ronan Murphy of Dungeons and Donuts explained.
The event is about more than gaming — everyone can take part, there will be events throughout the day and night including board games, card games, and miniature war game tournaments. “We will be playing loads of board games for those who want to just pop in whenever they can to support, at any time throughout the day, night or morning,” Murphy added.
Throughout the 24 hours there will be an auction that will include the chance of winning free donuts for a year, a bottomless cup of coffee, and rare collectibles.
“We are looking for people to get involved. So if you’d like to take part and be a volunteer and try and raise sponsorship for us please let us know as soon as you can,” Murphy said. “At the event this year our staff, friends of the store, and myself are going to go the extra mile yet again and do something we wouldn’t normally do — we will have more details on that on our Facebook page as the event comes closer.”
A coffee and donut morning will take place on Sunday October 29 at 11.30am, and there will be free coffee and donuts to all who call in and donate what they can to the cause and help to count down the 24 hours of gaming.
Donation buckets will be on site throughout the Game-a-Thon for people to donate. The event is open to everyone to take part in the Game-a-Thon, lend some support, or make a donation.
