Join the Croí Night Run and help support a vital service for Galway

Many families in Ireland have been touched in some way by the effects of Ireland’s biggest killer, heart disease. Heart disease is a silent killer that has impacted on so many lives. Many of us have had personal experience with loved ones who have suffered a heart attack or stroke. When this happens, we can find ourselves overwhelmed by the initial shock and confused by the treatment and recovery process. This is when a charity like Croí is so important. Croí is a not-for-profit organisation which is dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke. Croí provides a range of essential services for the general public that help to support patients and their families during the recovery process.

Croí patient and family support accommodation

Croí recognises the important role family and loved ones play in a patient’s recovery. The Courtyard Apartments at Croí House have been specifically designed for short-term stays, to allow family members to be as close as possible to patients who are in hospital for cardiac or stroke care. Croí also realises that families need support during this sometimes stressful period. The Courtyard Apartments therefore are made available at no charge, so you have one less thing to be concerned about while supporting your loved one in hospital. The Courtyard Apartments consists of three self-contained ground floor accommodation units, located just a 10 minute walk from University Hospital Galway.

‘Croí will always be close to our hearts’ - Maggie Lynch, Co Mayo

“In October 2015 at a time when we needed support Croí were there for us,” said Maggie Lynch, who has stayed at the Courtyard Apartments while her daughter was treated in UHG. “My daughter Jade (17 ) suffers from a heart condition that requires frequent hospital appointments and stays in ICU at University Hospital Galway. I have stayed at Croí apartments twice now, and I can honestly say that having some place to stay far from home, but close enough to walk to Jade’s bedside, made all the difference in the world. Croí apartments had everything I needed and the staff there were so kind. Jade’s school hosted a fundraiser for Croí and we were delighted to make a donation of €314 in June this year. We wish it could be more. Thank you Croí.”

Croí is an independent organisation, totally funded through fundraising activities, voluntary contributions, and public support. So put on your running shoes and help support this amazing local charity by signing up to the Croí Night Run 2017, which is sponsored by Evergreen Healthfoods. This year’s event will take place on Friday October 13 on the Salthill Promenade at 8pm and is open to walkers, joggers, and runners of all abilities.
