While many of the legends about St Patrick are well known, such as his banishing snakes from Ireland, it is less well known that he wrote an autobiography.
The real story of St Patrick is to be found in his own book, the Confessio, which he wrote late in life. In the book he explains and defends his mission to Ireland and recounts his adventures as a youth in Roman Britain and his later journeys in Ireland.
There will be a reading of St Patrick’s autobiography the Confessio at 12 noon on St Patrick’s Day, at the restored statue of the saint outside the nurses’ home at Galway University hospital. All are welcome to attend.
