Met Opera returns to Eye Cinema

THE METROPOLITAN Opera in New York's 2017–18 season opens this Saturday at 5.55pm with a new production of Bellini’s masterpiece Norma, starring Sondra Radvanovsky as the druid priestess, and Joyce DiDonato as her rival, Adalgisa.

The opera will be broadcast live via satellite to the The Eye Cinema, Wellpark, on Saturday. Other operas to be screened into Galway include Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Cosí Fan Tutte; the American premiere of Thomas Adès’s The Exterminating Angel; Puccini’s Tosca and La Bohème; Donizetti’s L’Elisir d’Amore; Verdi’s Luisa Miller; and Massenet’s Cendrillon.

The broadcasts will also include ‘behind the scenes’ during intervals and scene changes, and live interviews with the cast, crew, and production teams.The Eye will also be offering ‘lunchtime encore screenings’ at 11am with Die Zauberflöte (October 18 ), Tosca (January 31 ), La Bohème (February 28 ), and Cosí Fan Tutte (April 11 ).
