It can also leave black staining to your fireplace which can be difficult to remove.

Cleaning your chimney is important for your health. Carbon monoxide (CO ) is produced when fuel is burned. Even the smallest amounts of CO can cause dizziness, nausea, and fainting. If chimney flue is blocked, it can cause a build up of CO levels which can be lethal for anyone in the home.
