Ireland’s first SoundSystem Gathering to take place in Galway

Leisureland to host two day event in October

LEISURELAND WILL be transformed into a pressure cooker of reggae, dub, dubstep, and drum'n'bass, for Ireland’s first SoundSystem Gathering, which takes place this October.

Custom built SoundSystems from across the country will converge on Salthill on Friday October 20 and Saturday 21, for a vibrant celebration of the music, culture, and history of the SoundSystem world, the origin of which lies in the Jamaica of the 1950s, and which later spread internationally via Jamaican emigrants.

Friday and Saturday will feature a literary and pictorial History of SoundSystem Culture exhibition; film and documentary screenings; a record fair; workshops on music production and sound engineering; and how to build, maintain, and operate a SoundSystem. Traditional Jamaican and Caribbean cuisine will also be served.

.

Both nights culminate in a Sound Clash, a (friendly ) competition with SoundSystem crews selecting and playing music (often exclusives ) via their custom built equipment. The crowd favourite wins the title of Champion Sound”

Friday night centres around a Sound Clash between electronic music systems, concentrating on the more contemporary genres. Saturday night sees the climax of the event with the Roots SoundSystems playing reggae, dub, ska, and dancehall.

Admission is free between 4pm – 8.30pm each day and €15 from 9pm for the night event. A weekend pass is €25. See www.facebook.com/irishsoundsystemgathering
