Attempted robbery at Wellpark

Gardai in the city are investigating an attempted robbery in the city last week. On Wednesday September 6 at 10pm, a male was walking home in the Wellpark area.

A youth approached him on a bicycle; he brandished a knife and demanded money, the male refused and the youth cycled away.

Anyone who witnessed this or saw suspicious behaviour in Wellpark on that date is asked to contact Garda David Foley of the Crime Unit in Galway Garda Station at 091 538000

Be The Change Recruitment Week

Preparations for Be the Change are well underway. The People Before Profit recruitment roadshow hits Galway on Tuesday September 19.

Check out the People Before Profit Galway stalls on Shop Street and in Eyre Square from 5pm to 6.30pm. There will also be a public meeting addressed by TDs and local representatives at 8pm in the Harbour Hotel.

The public meeting will dress issues of inequality in Galway and will be addressed by local representative, Joe Loughnane, and one of the three TDs elected to the Dáil.

Renville Park coastal clean-up

The Renville Park coastal clean-up, in conjunction with An Taisce Clean Coast Programme, takes place this Saturday from 10am to 12 noon.

All are welcome to volunteer and help with the clean-up. Volunteers are asked to assemble at the Renville Park car park. Clean-up starts there, continuing towards the sailing club, and around the back of the golf club. Tea and cakes will be served afterwards. Galway Musical Society get their 2017/2018 season underway with a fun fundraiser at 8pm in the Ryan room, The Connacht Hotel, tonight, Thursday September 14. If quizzes are not your thing, don’t worry, we have fantastic spot prizes and raffle prizes up for grabs, kindly sponsored by local businesses. MC for the night is Kieran O Malley.

As a community-based project founded in 1985, GMS is one of the longest established musical societies in the West of Ireland. As a non-profit organisation, Galway Musical Society relies on the support of local businesses, organisations and the community to help us fundraise throughout the year. Recent productions, Legally Blonde and Rock of Ages have once again gained national recognition from the Association of Irish Musical Societies.

GMS are always looking for new members and supporters so we look forward to seeing new and familiar faces for the year ahead.
