Galway WFC head to Morton Stadium in good form for Women’s FAI Cup action on Saturday.
Shelbourne, fresh from their Champions League exploits, are the opponents, but Galway will be hoping to take their recent league form into the cup, run out 5-1 winners on Saturday afternoon in their Continental Tyres WNL clash with Kilkenny United at Eamonn Deacy Park.
The result of the game was never in doubt once the hosts opened the scoring on 17 minutes. Player of the Match Aislinn Meaney jinked past three players down the left before finishing to the net.
On the half hour mark Méabh De Búrca popped up to finish in a crowded goalmouth. This was then followed 10 minutes later when Aoife Brennan struck from outside the box. Galway added a fourth just before the break from Lynsey McKey.
Although Kilkenny pulled one back on the hour mark when Leanne Payne reacted quickest to get on the end of a free kick, Galway had the final say when a Grainne Barret corner found its way into the net with four minutes remaining.
