Senior club football championship action back this weekend

The Galway senior football club championship recommences this weekend after a long break over the summer months.

There are some exciting local tussles fixed for Saturday and Sunday, with the likes of Maigh Cuilinn taking on near neighbours Killanin, and city rivals Salthill locking horns with St Michael's in two games to be highly anticipated.

First up and into championship action on Saturday in Clonbur at 4.30pm, are Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir, and North Board senior side Kilconly.

There is an exciting double header in Tuam Stadium on Saturday, with The Stars under the guidance of former All-Star Ja Fallon taking on Caherlistrane (4.45pm ), and Mountbellew/Moylough with Corofin's Michael Donnellan wearing the Bainisteoir bib, taking on Milltown at 6.30pm.

Glenamaddy and Williamstown are in intermediate championship action (3pm ) before that senior double header.

In Pearse Stadium on Saturday county players Johnny Heaney, Gareth Bradshaw, David Walsh, Cathal Sweeney, and David Wynne will be in action with their respective clubs as they vie for a place in the next round when Moycullen take on Kilannin (6.30pm ) in what should be a lively encounter.

That tie is preceded by an intermediate championship game between An Spidéal and Oughterard (4.30pm ).

St Michael’s and Salthill-Knocknacarra face off

On Sunday there is an attractive double header in the senior championship at Pearse Stadium with Mícheál Breathnachs and a smooth moving St James’ outfit under the guidance of Terry O' Regan in action, with the throw-in at 12.45pm.

That tie is followed by Salthill-Knocknacarra managed by former Galway star Val Daly and St Michael's (2.30pm ) looking for a place in the next round.

There are two games in the intermediate championship in Tuam Stadium on Sunday with Dunmore MacHales and St Brendan’s in action at 1pm, and that is followed by Kilkerrin-Clonberne and Menlough at 2.30pm.
