Esker Festival Orchestra - two Galway shows

Concerts in Black Gate Cultural Centre and Galway Cathedral

MUSIC BY Mahler and Tchaikovsky, and the world premiere of new work by young Irish composer Christopher Moriarty, will be performed by the Esker Festival Orchestra at two shows in Galway this month.

The orchestra, conducted by Galway born Peter Joyce, will present 'An Evening of Chamber Music' at The Black Gate Cultural Centre, St Francis Street, on Thursday August 24 at 8pm (admission is €5 ) and play Galway Cathedral on Friday 25 at 8pm (admission is €15/10 ).

Their concert programme consists of Gustav Mahler's 'Songs of a Wayfarer' with mezzo-soprano Carolyn Holt; the world premiere of ‘Iridescence’ by Christopher Moriarty, winner of the 2017 Irish Freemasons Young Musician of the Year; and Tchaikovsky's 6th Symphony 'Pathétique'. The programme will be fine-tuned during an intensive rehearsal residency in NUI Galway from August 21 to 25.
