Galway WFC are at home again this weekend when they host UCD Waves in Eamonn Deacy Park on Saturday (6pm )
Galway will go into the game boosted by last weekend's result against reigning champions Shelbourne when they grabbed their first draw of the campaign.
Shels arrived in Galway having put eight past Kilkenny the previouis game, but Galway manager Billy Clery put out a defensive formation which for the most part worked.
Although Waves enjoyed much of the possession in the opening 10 minutes, they were kept at bay by Galway who, having withstood the pressure, then took the lead on 18 minutes. Jennifer Byrne rose to head home from a Lynsey McKey corner at the back post, and it could have been two five minutes later but Shels' keeper Amanda McQuillan produced a great save from a powerful McKey free kick.
Galway had the ball in the back of the net again soon when Tessa Mullins headed home after McQuillan failed to hold onto a McKey cross, but it was ruled out by referee Marc Lynch for an infringement.
When the game resumed after half-time, Galway's lead did not last long. Three minutes into the second half Leanne Kiernan got space down the right before Kate Mooney fired home from eight yards out.
Both sides had their chances to claim the winner. Shels looked to counter attack quickly on the break but having fashioned a shooting chance, Killeen's effort curled wide of the far post.
Galway then went close to grabbing a winner in the 80th minute as 16-year-old home debutant Lucia Lobatto got on the end of a Shauna Fox free kick, but her glancing header was saved by McQuillan.
