The Galway County Council has decided to defer voting on the allocation of roads funding from Central Government.
The motion which was to be considered would see 10 per cent of any additional roads funding allocated from Central Government be allocated to roads within 25kn of Galway city.
Even though the vote was deferred some councillors said they were completely opposed to the motion.
Cllr Jimmy McClearn said he was surprised by this motion being brought forward again.
"There is a saying about turkeys voting for Christmas. Personally I am not a turkey and I am not voting for it. It would reduce Loughrea’s municipal funding by €40,000."
Cllr Michael Fahy agreed with Cllr McClearn's sentiment.
"I do not want it [this motion] hanging over us where the Loughrea municipal could lose out on 40 grand. We should bury this motion today."
