Galway groups urged to apply for funding under arts and youth scheme

Youth and arts groups across County Galway are being urged to apply for up to €5,000 in funding through a new residency scheme, which will see groups working with professional artists.

The Artist and Youth Work Residency Scheme 2017 is open to youth groups and artists, with those selected going on to work with a professional artist on a creative project within their local community. Residencies can take the form of an artist in residence in a youth work setting or a youth group in residence in an arts setting.

The scheme is managed by the National Youth Council of Ireland, and funded by the Arts Council and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. “If you have an idea for working with young people in a creative way, and need funding to make it happen, we’d encourage you to consider this grant. Each year we are delighted with the calibre of local projects that apply," said Anne O’Gorman of the NYCI.

Previous successful applicants have scripted, shot and edited films; designed and constructed pieces of public art; written and performed plays; or photographed their neighbourhood.

The closing date for applications is Friday July 28. For more information see www.youtharts.ie/content/artist-youth-work-scheme
