Waterboys headline the Carrick Water Music Festival 2017

THE 13TH annual Carrick Water Music Festival, staring July 12, and running for five days, will be headlined by the legendary Scottish folk-rock and roots band The Waterboys.

The Waterboys play the Landmark Central on Sunday July 16, in what will be their only Irish summer show of 2017. "People should expect the unexpected from The Waterboys," says band leader and vocalist Mike Scott, who will be joined by Steve Wickham on electric fiddle; Memphis keyboard player and showman Brother Paul; drummer Ralph Salmins; Muscle Shoals bassman David Hood; and Austin guitarist Zach Ernst.

Each day of the festival opens with lunchtime entertainment offering concerts from award winning classical musicians Jessie de Bellis (July 14 ) and South Korean Young-Choon Park (July 14 ) to multi-instrumentalists and comic performers The Von Drip Duo performing a free family street show (July 15 ). Evening shows include the Crash Ensemble presenting new work with ‘CrashLands’ (July 12 ) and Will You Remember? A Celebration of MGM legends Jeanette MacDonald & Nelson Eddy performed by Sandra Oman and Simon Morgan.

The Dublin Gospel Choir (July 14 ) play St George's Church; and at the Late Night Festival Club, with rising Irish indie band Come On Live Long (July 14 ), and whose latest album, In The Still, was an Irish Times Album of the Week; and Nick Drake and Patti Smith influenced sounds of Naoise Roo (July 15 ).

There will be an outdoor screening of the Oscar-nominated animated film Song of the Sea, featuring a musical introduction by members of Kila. Expect jazz cruises featuring The Cadillac Quartet with David Lyttle (July 16 ) and The Original Guinness Jazz Band (July 17 ). There will also be workshops for aspiring musicians, craft makers, and an art and curios market.
