Galway WFC take their home fixture to Limerick

Galway WFC resume league action after an international break when they host their home fixture in the University of Limerick Bowl on Saturday at 7pm.

They take on title contenders Wexford Youths in Limerick to showcase the Continental Tyres Women’s League as part of the FAI Gaynor Cup, which is taking place over the weekend with some 1,000 players at under 14 and 16 levels.

Wexford Youths are two points off the top and with a game in hand, and Galway manager Billy Clery knows this will be a tough fixture for his side who lost 2-0 in Ferrycarrig Park in March.

Defence will be a priority for Galway as they try to stop Wexford captain Kylie Murphy, who has scored five goals in six games, and Limerick native and Irish international Claire O’Riordan, who has struck four to date.

Galway are not helped with the absence of Aislinn Meaney, Tessa Mullins and Therese Hartley, while Shaunagh Jackson will undergo a fitness test on her ankle before kick off.

Clery and assistant manager Maz Sweeney will also use the opportunity to look at a number of underage players during the weekend with the Galway U16s looking to retain the title.
