Stop off in The Forge pub and restaurant, Moycullen

The Forge has long been known as a convenient stop off for visitors on the way to or coming back from Connemara, and it is just as popular with the local residents. The relaxed, cosy, atmosphere and welcoming local staff ensures it enjoys a large share of repeat custom, keeping it busy through the winter months.

There is something for everyone and all options are covered, from a full three course dinner to a quiet coffee and dessert. A real feature is the view into the kitchen, which, like many modern restaurants, offers diners the opportunity to indulge their voyeuristic tendencies. The selection of food ranges from the ever popular hearty roasts from the carvery, fresh fish, salads and sandwiches, and creamy pasta to house made indulgent desserts. Starters could be Atlantic seafood chowder or Ceasar salad, and there is plenty of choice for mains including traditional fish and chips, slow cooked lamb shanks, honey roast duck, and chicken and mushroom tagliatelli.

Prices are reasonable — starters of panko coated squid and grilled goats cheese, both priced at €8.95, were well flavoured, and a main of roast darn of salmon at €15.95 was perfectly cooked, and the portions were more than generous.

The Forge recently added breakfast to its list and is now serving a full Irish from 9am until noon daily.

Live music every weekend creates a wonderful buzz and local talent is often showcased on a regular basis in The Venue upstairs as well as hosting some bigger acts including Seán Keane, Julie Feeney, Frances Black, Kieran Goss, Jack L, and Brendan Grace. And when The Venue is not being used to host some of Ireland's famous stars, it caters for Christenings, birthdays, funerals, anniversaries, and private parties.

The Forge is a nice spot for a meet up over breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The team have plenty of smile in their service and situated on the beaten path as they are, right on the main road with plenty of parking, this is a spot that appeals to a large demographic of customers.
