US choir and orchestra to play two Galway concerts

Concerts in Kylemore Abbey Gothic church and St Nicholas' Collegiate Church

SPRINGSIDE CHESTNUT Hill Academy Youth Choral and Orchestral Ensemble from Philadelphia will play two concerts - one in Galway city and the other in Connemara.

The ensemble, from one of Philadelphia's most prestigious schools, plays the restored Gothic Church in Kylemore Abbey on Sunday June 18 at 1pm and in St Nicholas' Collegiate Church on Monday 19 at 11am. Admission to both concerts is free.

Performing for the Irish tour will be the 28 member mixed voice SATB chamber choir and two equal voice choirs - the Laurelie and the Hilltones. The chamber choir will perform contemporary choral music and modern choral music, while the equal voice ensembles will sing popular song. The conductors are Roland Woehr and Meghan Curry (choral directors ) and Katie Bechthold and Matt Brandt (orchestra directors ).

They have received many honours in the US, winning consecutive first place citations at various adjudications. They have performed in concert tours and with renowned soprano Frederica von Stade.
