Turloughmore need to beat Portumna

A full round of group fixtures in the senior hurling championship takes place this weekend with some exciting games down for decision.

On Saturday former All-Ireland champions Portumna take on Turloughmore, who are managed by former Mayo manager James Horan this season, in a crucial Senior A group two game at 1pm in Duggan Park.

It is an ideal opportunity for hurling fans to see county stars and teammates Joe Canning and Daithí Burke on opposite sides in club fare after watching them star against Dublin on Sunday in Tullamore.

Turloughmore have only one win from two games, and another defeat on Saturday would put them under pressure to qualify from the group. They will be leaving no stone unturned to try to collect two points on Saturday.

On Sunday evening in the same group, there is another cracking game in prospect with St Thomas and Gort in action in Kenny Park at 6pm.

Both teams have won a game each and lost a game, so there is a plenty at stake in that tie in what is a highly competitive group.

The other two teams in the group, Sarsfields and Padraig Pearse’s, face each other on Sunday at Duggan Park at 2.30pm.

Pearses have only one point from two games, so they really need to try to produce a winning performance, but it will not be easy against the Sars.
