Hothouse Flowers - Monroe's Live date for July

"ROCK'N'ROLL is not about safety or politeness, it is not about perfection. It is expression and it is spirit." So say the Hothouse Flowers who are coming to next month's Galway International Arts Festival.

Led by the indefatigable Liam Ó Maonlaí and Fiachna Ó Braonáin, the band are now going for almost four decades, but there is still a sense of unfinished business. Every night they want to play the best gig they have ever played and to take the musical risks to make that possible.

Speaking about his approach to music, Ó Maonlaí said: "I take pleasure in facing adversity. I don't see perfection as something that can be created externally. It is an experience, a connection between listener and player. If you feel the music, they will feel the music.”

Hothouse Flowers were recently invited to be featured in the opening scene of Amazon Prime’s hugely successful The Grand Tour to perform their version of ‘I Can See Clearly Now’ for an invited audience in the Mojave Desert. 'I Can See Clearly Now' then went to Number 1 in the UK iTunes Rock Charts, just 26 years after its first release.

Hothouse Flowers play Monroe’s Live on Friday July 21 at 8pm. Tickets are on sale from www.monroes.ie
