Icelandic choir to sing in St Nicholas'

Selkórinn to give free concert next week

ICELANDIC CHORAL music will be heard within St Nicholas' Collegiate Church when the Selkórinn choir perform a tea-time concert in the city centre church next week.

From the small Icelandic township of Seltjarnarnes, this mixed voice choir will perform music from their native land and international songs, on Thursday June 8 at 5.30pm. They will be conducted by eminient composer and cellist Oliver Kentish who has lived and worked in Iceland since 1977. The accompanist is Dagný Björgvinsdóttir and vocal coach is Signý Sæmundsdóttir.

Selkórinn was originally founded as a women’s choir in 1968, and in 1976 the choir was expanded to include men. The choir has toured internationally and performed Handel’s Messiah, Dvorák’s Mass in D, and Mozart’s Requiem. Admission is free and all are welcome.
