ICONIC AMERICAN music, such as Bernstein's scores for West Side Story, will be performed by the Irish Chamber Orchestra on their America Tour, which comes to Galway next month.
The orchestra, under director Katherine Hunka, will play the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday June 17 at 8pm. The programme will include 'Tonight', 'Maria', 'Cool' and 'America' from Bernstein’s 1957 West Side Story; John Adams' radical, minimalist, rhythmic Shaker Loops; Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings, one of the most loved, yet solemn and evocative, pieces of American music; and Piazzolla's Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, seeks to capture the changes in nature throughout a year in Argentina.
Tickets are €20/18 and available from the Town Hall (091 - 569777,www.tht.ie ). See www.irishchamberorchestra.com
