BACK WEST - Galway brother and sister duo Maureen and Brendan Browne, Tyrone's virtuoso PJ McDonald, and Lord of the Dance's Peter Vickers - launch their debut album in the Róisín Dubh this weekend.
The band - PJ McDonald (tin whistle/guitar ), Maureen and Brendan Browne (fiddle and button accordion ), Peter Vickers (percussion/dance ) - will launch The Long Walk with a free gig, involving music, song, and dance, on Saturday May 13 at 8pm.
McDonald has worked with Arty McGlynn, Máirtín O’Connor, Cathal Hayden, and Seamie O’Dowd. He was a member of the White Hare Band, The Bad Articles, and The Bettys. He has released the solo album The Long Road Home.
Maureen Browne has toured extensively with the Alan Kelly Gang, Scottish singer Eddi Reader, Máirtín O’Connor, and the Contempo Quartet, and performed at the Milwaukee Irish Festival, the Celtic Colours International Festival, the Edmonton Folk Festival, and the National Folk Festival.
Brendan became a member of the Riverdance ‘Flying’ Squad band in his late teens and has performed as an actor and musician in Séamus Ó Scolaí's translation of Vincent Woods's At Black Pig's Dyke.
Vickers toured extensively with Michael Flatley’s Lord Of The Dance and has danced for presidents Mary McAleese and Michael D Higgins. He has also worked with Sharon Shannon and Frankie Gavin.
