NO MONSTER Club, the cartoonish art-pop brainchild of Dublin songwriter and vocalist Bobby Aherne, have songs which NYLON described as "a stripped-down, sugar high Pet Sounds", and which The Irish Times said have "the kind of tunefulness that makes a joke of so much contemporary pop music".
The band - which features members of the Popical Island collective - are coming to Galway's Róisín Dubh this week, in a brief respite from their ambitious 'Encyclopedia' project, where they release a new two-track EP on the first day of each month this year. Each EP is free to download on nomonsterclub.bandcamp.com, with March's EP being Casket - Drum, and the next EP just days away.
No Monster Club have released the albums People Are Weird (2015 ) and I Feel Magic (2016 ), and have enjoyed critical acclaim. Controversial and legendary music journalist Everett True describing their music as "unfettered, unafraid, purely wonderful (pure and wonderful )". The Last Mixed Tape has declared Aherne, "the mad scientist of Irish indie-pop...one of the most inventive and unpredictable acts on the Irish music scene." They have also supported The Polyphonic Spree, Wavves, HEALTH, Jeffrey Lewis, and Ariel Pink.
